It’s International Women’s Day, a time for ALL of us to celebrate! When girls and women have equal opportunities to learn, grow and become who we want to be, the whole world benefits.
I’ve been so fortunate to have amazingly strong women in my life that have served as role models. Women like Mom and Grandma nurtured and protected me when I was too young to fend for myself. Then there were teachers who passed on valuable lessons whether they were soft-spoken and kind or outspoken and bold. Mentors and bosses that guided and encouraged me along the way, and now incredibly talented co-workers that continue to inspire me on a daily basis. Female family members, new friends and colleagues that have surrounded me with support and kindness. Yep, you all know who you are!
I absolutely love the women in my life! 💕
There has also been a very vital international influence of women who have positively shaped my journey. When I first ventured to Santiago, Dominican Republic almost 30 years ago as an exchange student, I could never have predicted the lifelong impact of my journey. As pure blind luck would have it, I was placed with a kind-hearted, hard-working woman and her family who cared and watched out for me as if I were her own.
Words cannot express my gratitude over the years to doña Lenis for always welcoming me as part of her family.
We just returned from an epic FIFTH trip to DR, and being able to share my passion for coffee and this country with some of our Espresso Elevado staff is an unbelievable gift of life coming full circle.
Today as we salute all women near and far, my heart beats to the rhythm of merengue and I’m sending out ‘un beso’ (a kiss) to my sweet Dominican mom and her family.
